Washington Arch- New York’s Arc de Triomphe

Living in New York and attending NYU I often pass by Washington Square Park. Since the park and the arch are pretty much a part of the school’s campus and I pass it at least a few times a week I never paid much attention to it. However, this changed once I visited Paris and saw the Arc de Triomphe. The Washington Arch has a stark resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe.

The Arce de Triomphe was erected to honor all those who died in the Napoleonic Wars and French Revolution. The Washington Arch on the other hand was built to commemorate the inauguration of George Washington as the first president of the Unites States.

It’s amazing being able to travel and make such observations.
