Driving Through the Kigoma Region

The days in Kigoma were long and tiring. We spent at least 6 hours driving back and forth to the camps and spent the other days flying to Kigoma and then back to Dar.

Driving through the Region was very dull since it was so rural. The unpaved roads once we were out of Kigoma City made the commute very difficult. Occasionally, we spotted little boys rearing cattle but for the most part we went miles without passing houses or any signs of settlement. However, we did come cross field offices and staff houses for the UNHCR, WFP and NGOs such as Save the Children and the International Rescue Committee.
