Christmas in New York

After meeting with a Client in the city I stumbled upon the Lord & Taylor Christmas display which was just spectacular. I had to capture it for the blog.

Hillary Clinton at the United Nations

As many of you may know by know, I am pursing an advanced degree in global affairs and is interested in pursuing a career in the humanitarian field. I currently intern at the United Nations(UN) which affords me a lot of great opportunities.

Former First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, visited the UN to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women that was held in Beijing in 1994. It was at this conference that she famously declared that “women’s rights are human rights.”The meeting was also attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson.

The event was great and Hillary Clinton was introduced as “president to be” in which she gracefully blushed and nodded. However, it was overshadowed by the press conference that she later had to address the scandal involving her using her personal email while being Secretary of State.

Ice Skating at Bryant Park

It is no secret that we have had a long and rough winter here in New York but it is coming to an end. For once I actually decided to embrace the weather and engage in a fun winter activity before the season is over. Luckily, I was able to get discounted ice acting tickets just a few days before the rink closes for the season. While I am horrible at ice skating and is in dire need of private lessons it is a fun experience.

Frozen Fountain In Bryant Park

It is no secret that the east coast has experienced a treacherous winter. We have had snow after snow and record breaking temperatures. With March approaching we are hoping for warmer weather and for the snow accumulations to melt.

Yesterday I was passing through Bryant Park and noticed that the fountain was frozen from all the snow accumulation and bitter cold temperatures. Even though the snow was visibly melting because of milder temperatures yesterday, it was a still astonishing to see the fountain completely frozen.

Just another reminder of the rough winter that we have endured.

Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent and 46 days until Easter for Western Christians.

Ironically, I was running errands and passed by St. Patrick’s Cathedral and decided to celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass there and receive my ashes as a matter of convenience in the event that I would be unable to go to my local parish later. Since it is a NYC landmark and the seat of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, the church was filled with tourists and churchgoers.

The Cathedral is currently under construction and has Neo-Gothic architectural style which led it to remind me of the Sagrada Familia in Spain.

Aftermath of the Blizzard of 2015

So the much talked about and anticipated blizzard of 2015, Juno, came and went. Fortunately or unfortunately, the snow was not as brutal as anticipated.  While other parts of New York experienced extreme conditions, the city itself did not experience heavier than normal snowfall.

I woke up at 7am expecting to see all the cars in the parking lot completely covered in snow but was surprised to see that they were just  partially covered in sheets of snow. However, the ice on the lights were awesome.

Once the snow quelled down I decided to go for a walk just to analyze the snowfall. It actually wasn’t anything that we are not used to out here in New York.

Walking in the snow

Walking in the snow

While the storm could have been very costly and cause dangerous conditions, I was excited to experience 20-30 inches of snow. In my fourteen years of living in New York I have not experience record breaking snow or extreme blizzard conditions. Nonetheless, I was happy for the first major snowfall of the season and definitely can’t wait for more winter wonderland.
